Taking their cues from the likes of Spacemen 3 and the Jesus & Mary Chain, for the last decade DIY sonic alchemists the Cult of Dom Keller have been creating whacked out soundscapes that appear to have been borne from another universe, all from the confines of their East Midlands sonic bunker.
The Nottingham four-piece comprised of Ryan Delgaudio (vocals, guitars, keys), Neil Marsden (vocals, keys), Jason Holt (bass, synthesizer) and Al Burns (drums) recently emerged from the psych underground with their rapturously received third album, Goodbye to the Light, released on Fuzz Club in July 2016.
With cosmic melodies colliding with pummelling percussion, the direction of the new material expanded on their previous two lo-fi long-players - which both sold out on word of mouth alone - and deservedly featured on many end of year top 10 lists from local, national and international music media alike.
“We were born. We were lost. And then the pull of the universe brought us together to make music and the Cult of Dom Keller has existed ever since,” explains Delgaudio on the group's ongoing transition. “There’s never been any agendas, egos or mission statement: just creating and evolving our own thing and pushing ourselves as musicians and songwriters.”
Live, the band are something of a raw, blown-out beast, and over the years have performed to enamoured audiences at the likes of Austin Psych Fest, Eindhoven Psych Lab, Liverpool Psych Fest and Milhoes De Festa as well as regularly touring Europe.
Having recently hooked up with Eggs in Aspic, January 2017 sees the band release Paradiso is on Fire, a loud and sonically congruent live album recorded at the group's recent sold-out show at the legendary Amsterdam nightspot in November 2016. Capturing the tangible energy and supreme raw power of the group's infamous live shows, the limited-edition cassette only release is sure to become something of a collector's item for fuzz aficionados worldwide.
Eggs in Aspic is dedicated to cataloguing the sounds of the global psychedelic underground via beautifully packaged, limited run cassettes. Our ethos is simple: if it needs to be heard, we'll put it out.
