Rhys Bloodjoy — “a solo psychedelic explosion” — has been wowing audiences on the underground since emerging on the Manchester live scene in late 2014.

Shrouded in mystery with his head hooded, Bloodjoy’s one-guitar-sound combines heartfelt and moody vocals, semi-controlled feedback and echo-drenched acoustic guitar loops and beats; a sound which has been described as “Hypnotic…mellow and intense at the same time”, while his live performance has been dubbed as one that “quite easily blows most four and five piece epics bands off the stage.”

2015 saw him added to the bills of several key northern UK psychedelic festivals (including Manchester’s Cosmosis, Leeds Karma III and Astral Elevator’s ‘Rising’) and in addition to playing shows in Sheffield and London, he also ventured overseas for his first tour of the Netherlands.

His first show of 2016 saw him invited to play as main support to Singapore Sling, followed by a second appearance at Cosmosis in March (on a bill alongside the likes the Jesus & Mary Chain and Brian Jonestown Massacre).

After a wave of interest from record labels, Bloodjoy opted to release a 7″ single in June via Manchester indie label, Sister 9 Recordings; a record which was enthusiastically mastered by Spacemen 3 legend, Sonic Boom.

Having spent the summer writing and recording new music, Bloodjoy kicked off the Autumn with a 10-date tour of Spain, followed by UK dates (including his first Manchester home-town headline show) to celebrate the release of his first full length EP, “Psyche Attack Theories”, released in the form of an exclusive limited edition download card + digipak on December 23rd via Sister 9 Recordings.

2017 is already shaping up with plans for a UK tour/EP release in May via Newcastle cassette label Eggs in Aspic.

Well this is damn good. I’m struggling to describe it, but here goes: Birthday Party era Nick Cave arthouse post punk with a stoner rock vibe to the production. Whew! The bass drives the music and there is considerable variety between the songs. They tag it as, among others, psychedelic rock, and while I’m not sure I hear it, this lines up nicely with other recent standout additions to my collection like Hochen, Dreamtime, and Black Rainbows, who also use that tag. So maybe it’s just me. Lute FP
